Preschool/Pre-K

The learning process varies greatly between Preschool and Pre-K, though the categories and general focus are the same and are outlined below.

CIRCLE TIME

  • Have a "special helper" or leader for the day to direct the circle time
  • Introduce everyone- go around the circle saying everyone's names and counting the number of kids
  • Discuss the weather and calendar (use weather board/calendar board)
  • Have teachers describe the activities for the day
  • Morning or Afternoon Greeting song

SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES

  • Centered around the domains of problem solving, art/music, language and motor skills
  • Teacher will have daily activities in each of these areas

    Art/Music (Aesthetics)

    • Self-expression through visual and performing arts
    • Aesthetic appreciation

Problem Solving (Cognitive Skills & Fine Motor Skills)

  • Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Mathematical Understanding

Language

  • Effective communication through listening, speaking, writing and reading

Physical Motor Skills (Gross Motor)

  • Developing the use of large and small muscles
  • Physical Fitness
  • Care and respect for the body
